OUR PROJECT

Currently, less than 22% of American adults are getting the recommended amount of water per day. This common dehydration is largely due to the fact that people are to busy to track their daily water levels. Dehydration has been shown to lower efficiency in nearly everything we do.Therefore, with WaterMate users will easily be able to see if they are getting the optimal water intake each day so that each day can be experienced to the fullest.

NEEDS ASSESSMENTS

Objective: Allow people to not have to manually track their water intake. Most Adults are to busy to write down the amount they drink throughout the day and end up dehydrated. With this app, it will allow for the user to know if they are getting enough fluids by using sensors to constantly ping to an app where it is updated automatically.

Background: Most Adults are to busy to write down the amount they drink throughout the day and end up dehydrated. With this app, it will allow for the user to know if they are getting enough fluids by using sensors to constantly ping to an app where it is updated automatically.

Methodology: How it works: Water bottle is connected to an app via Bluetooth.  Uses sensors (Ultra Sonic or Flow Rate) to measure how much liquid is in the bottle at any given time, and records the data.  The app will use previously provided data on height, weight, and level of fitness/daily activity to give recommendations on how much a person should drink, and remind them if they need to drink more. This feature would push notifications to a user’s phone through the app.

Expected results: Produce a functional application that has both a front end and a backend to communicate to a functional prototype that allow users know how much they are drinking so they can keep track of their hydration levels.

Costs: The development of this app will not cost any money to produce. The programming software we are using has no cost. The sensors and bottle used for the prototype will have minimum cost.

PROJECT FORMULATION

Problem: Mindlessly refilling of your water bottle without thinking of documenting how much has been drank throughout the day.

Solution: Bluetooth ultrasonic sensor that can connect to a users app that will constantly be pulling data from the sensor updating the UI with the data so the user does not have to manually enter anything in.

Kepner-Tregoe Problem Analysis

  • What: The human body needs water to function optimally

  • When: Every day the body needs water and when you are doing physical activity you have to make sure you are replenishing yourself throughout the day.

  • Who: Anyone can use it whether they are an athlete or just looking to stay healthy

  • Where: This is a global initiative to stay healthy.

  • Why: As an athlete myself I always forget to track my water intake and it is very frustrating so this application will give me a piece of mind knowing I will not have to worry about anything.

  • How: An ultra sonic sensor will be used and stored in the cap of the water bottle. This way the battery can be stored up there as well. It will connect via Bluetooth to the users device and the sensor will send data to the device as it is requested.
